Chandelier Installation Tips

Shut It Down: Start by turning off the power and verifying with a tester that all wires are off.

Check It Out: Remember that different houses have different types of wiring, so familiarize yourself with the wiring configuration in your home.

Heed the Code: According to electrical codes, the white wire should be the neutral wire. Bare copper wires and green wires are grounds. The black wire is hot. A red wire, if present, is also hot.

Take Notes: Many installations are as simple as connecting white wires to white wires, and black wires to black wires using plastic wire nuts. If you see that more wires are involved, take note of the way the existing light fixture is connected before disconnecting any wires. By connecting your new chandelier in the same way your existing fixture was connected, you should be able to complete the installation successfully.

Mind the Details: Pay close attention to any manufacturer's instructions included with your chandelier to ensure proper installation. If you encounter any uncertainties or difficulties, contact a professional electrician.
